We openly welcome couples who wish to be married in our church.

Our beautiful ancient village church offers an idyllic setting for your marriage ceremony. A warm welcome is extended, and planning and preparation for your big day are carefully and sensitively handled. The church grounds offer a beautiful background for your photographs. The cost of a church wedding is also not much greater than at a registry office, and we offer so much more. We are also ideally positioned for Morley Hayes, Breadsall Priory and Broomfield Hall – all of which make great wedding reception venues.

For further information about choosing and arranging a Church wedding please go to www.yourchurchwedding.org,

If you live in the village or worship regularly at our church, you have a right to be married in St Matthew’s Morley Church. There are also other ways in which you may qualify if you have a family connection with the church.

We are also open to those who have been married before, although there are guidelines laid down as to how this should be dealt with. You need to speak at an early stage to your Vicar about your situation. He will want to talk to you frankly about your past and your hopes for the future and will let you know whether he can remarry you.

For all wedding enquiries please contact our Revd Kate Plant.

More churches to choose from

Thanks to a new law, you’ve now got more choice about which church to marry in.

You might wish to marry in a different church to the church in the area where you now live because it has special significance for you through family or other special connections. An engaged couple can now do just that if either of you can show just one of the following seven connections with the parish.

That one of you:

1.  was baptised in the parish concerned or
2.  was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
3.  has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
4.  has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months

or

That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

5.  has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
6.  has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months

or

7. That one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish

In all cases involving church services, ie going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage – this applies only to Church of England services. Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we want to help you explore whether it may still be possible for you to marry in your special church.
